Adoptions

Adoption is the process whereby a non-biological parent takes on the role of parent and extinguishes the role of the biological parent. The two most common adoptive situations are where a couple adopts the child of a biological parent and where a spouse adopts the biological child of his spouse. The Province of Alberta has packages which provide forms which may be completed to commence and finalize an uncontested adoption. Contact the Queen's Printer at MacDougall Centre for more information, or to order online, search under 'Adoptions' at http://www.qp.gov.ab.ca. Parties who have contested adoptions or need assistance with the steps needed to complete an adoption, may wish to consult or retain a lawyer at Foster Richmond LLP to guide them through this process.
